The List of Muscle-Building Foods You Can Add To Meals

In order to build and maintain muscle, the body requires nine essential amino acids. They are the building blocks of proteins and they help the recovery and repair of muscle fibers after workouts sessions. Also, they allow the creation of more muscle cells.

Egg Help Build Muscles:

In the past, egg has been implicated in the development of cardiovascular diseases because of the Cholesterol content. As of today more and more research has revealed that dietary cholesterol and heart diseases are not connected for many people.

The cholesterol found in eggs yolks serves at the scaffolding for steroid hormones. It has also been shown that ½ a gram of leucine found in each egg is like can act as a fuel for your muscle-building fire.

Build Muscle Mass With Nuts

It has been found that eating nuts (and other protein sources) immediately after your workout or exercises enables muscle growth. When you consume them with exercises that task your muscles, e.g. weightlifting or pushups, you muscle-building goals can be achieved faster.

However, it should be noted that consuming extra protein will not lead to increased gains. You should only consume that which is required daily. Also, you should note that nuts are not complete proteins because they lack some essential amino acids. Research have shown that consuming them with legumes at the same time or on the same day makes them complete.

Care should be taken when eating nuts because they are majorly fat. Consuming them in excess to help build muscle can lead to weight gain.

Lean Beef, Yes Beef Helps In Muscle Building

I believe everyone should know that lean beef is high up there on the list of foods that help build body muscles. Lean beef contains a combination of protein with essential amino acids, B-vitamins, and creatine that work together to help muscle-building.

Rick Hall, a registered dietitian and nutrition lecturer at Arizona State University (Tempe) said, ”Protein is the most obvious nutrient in beef that can benefit anyone who is training.”

He further explained that beef doesn’t contain just any run-of-the-mill protein. It boasts an impressive collection of the nine essential amino acids and has a high biological value, which means it’s very digestible and usable by the body. In fact, studies show that foods with a high biological value are what you should hunt for to repair those muscles post-workout.

Brown Rice For Building Muscles

This is especially a very good option for vegetarians trying to build muscle. Since they would normally want to avoid foods from animal sources, cooked brown rice can serve as part of their protein source for mass building.

Since cooked brown rice contains about five grams of protein per cup and a relatively high amount of branched-chain amino acids, it automatically becomes a good vegetarian muscle-building food option.

Cooked brown rice has five grams of protein per cup. It also has a relatively high amount of branched-chain amino acids, making it a good vegetarian muscle-building food.

Beans and Peas Provide Some Protein

Plant proteins generally don’t contain complete essential amino acids. They are therefore best eaten with whole-wheat grains for the right amino acids profile for the body.

Even though they are not a complete protein, beans have a good amount of amino acids and have the benefit of being low in fat, full of fibre and relatively cheap.

There are numerous other food types like Salmon, Kefir, Scallops, Bison, Lentils and more like that. I only talked about these few because they are the muscle-building foods that you can get easily in this part of the world.

Now that you that foods can help help you build muscle as you exercise. You should find ways to include them in your diet to achieve your muscle-building goals faster.

Do Eggs Truly Help Men Perform Better In S£x?

A few days ago, I was listening to the evening news in one of the major TV stations here in Nigeria and deep into the news, the reporter who visited an egg production poultry farm was advising listeners, particularly men to eat eggs for better s£x performance among other nutritional benefits. Shortly after I heard this, I wondered if this was just another myth or a fact? Could there be a scientific connection between the eggs you consume and how well you perform in bed? In this write-up, foodsng.com shall establish or debunk the claim.

Eggs boiled

I have always jokingly communicated to some of my female friends who are married, that men love good foods and s£x. One of the effective ways to improve the s£x performance of their husband, if they must, is to change the constituent of his diet. That is quite an unusual advice but you never can tell. Putting that in mind, is egg one of such food items that could unleash a better s£x? Maybe, maybe not.

The argument on this topic by Farm Owners

One factor that has caused many men to perform poorly during s£x is stress which is usually from the mind. Having said that, marketers of vitamin supplementation have claimed that vitamin B is a major micronutrient that will help reduce mental stress.

The argument that many farm owners have also put to the table is that egg is rich in B vitamins and as such can help reduce stress which sometimes causes poor s£x performance. In fact, the proponents of this claim say, with a plateful of eggs whether scramble or boiled eggs on the morning of your deal date, the available B vitamins will keep you calm and prevent premature £jacuIation due to anxiety. Can this be true?

Eggs Helping Men Perform Better In S£x? Myth or Truth?

Truly, Egg is a wonder food that everyone should include in their diets at recommended intake levels regardless of their age provided it does not trigger any reaction in their body. I have also argued that in as much as the B vitamins are key to ensure a healthy heart, blood production, improved energy to mention a few, it could be a fallacy to categorically claim that consumption of eggs due to the richness in B vitamins will lead to better s£x performance.

In my days of digging the web to find research work (relating to egg and s£x performance) done by any credible institution, I could not find an established fact on it. However, certainly, healthy nutrition which is usually based on a combination of many food items from different food groups including egg protein will definitely aid or improve your chances of performing better in bed provided all other external factors which could inhibit a man’s performance during s£x is not in play.

If you have heard such information that eggs could help you perform better in bed, it is not necessarily true and based on the information you should not unnecessarily indulge in egg consumption before s£x as this could make you become prone to disease conditions that are associated with excessive egg consumption. A combination of a healthy diet can help, however, speaking to a general practitioner on your peculiar poor performance during s£x might also be helpful.

(VIDEO) Tricks I Use To Remove Boiled Egg Shell Smoothly

Removing the shells of boiled eggs can sometimes be a pain. If you cook and eat eggs often, you would instantly understand what I am talking about. Nobody really likes an egg that has been bruised all around while trying to remove the eggshell. I have tried several tricks recommended by people in the past to smoothly remove eggshells but they all did not work every time.

how to peel egg easily

This trick I am going to share with you works 100% of the time. I have used it over and over again but I never thought of sharing with you here on FoodsNG until some days ago when a friend visit and said “Wow, this is cool”, while I was trying to remove the shells from two eggs I boiled. This was when I realized I should share it with more people.

So, how do I smoothly remove the shell from my boiled eggs?

Steps for smoothly peeling boiled eggshells!

First of all, you must have at least two boiled eggs to remove shells from. Boil your eggs and make sure they are hard enough before you take them off the burner.

Take a bowl of cold water and put these eggs in there, immediately after taking them out of the cold water.

Now, get a glass cup and fill about half of it with cold water

Put the two eggs in the glass cup and use your right hand palm to cover the open end

Place your left hand palm below the cup and shake the cup as seen in the video above

Now, remove your eggs and smoothly peel of the shells flawlessly.

How To Easily Peel Eggs With Iced Water

It is advisable to use older eggs for boiling. If the eggs were previously in the refrigerator, bring them to room temperature before boiling. Now it is time to boil your eggs, make sure they are boiled enough and then turn the stove off.

Leaving the cooking pot on the stove with the eggs still inside the water. After 14 minutes, place the eggs into ice water and it should peel easily inside.

There is also the microwave option but this does not come without its own dangers. It is one of the reasons we are not going to talk about it in this article.

How To Check Egg Freshness Before Buying Or Cracking

There are several ways of knowing if an egg is good after you have cracked it for frying or other purposes. The colour of the egg white and the yolk, the smell and other factors can be determined the level of freshness or how bad an egg has gone.

Never attempt to consume egg that had changed colour or smells — you don’t want to witness the consequences, let alone experience if first hand. That said, what if you want to boil your egg? Is there or are there ways for checking the freshness of eggs before you boil them.

Eggs in crates

Sometimes, you go to the open market where eggs are stored at normal ambient temperature instead of the refrigerator and you want to know if the eggs are still good before you spend your hard-earned money to buy them. You don’t want to buy them and get home to discover they have gone bad.

I am going to share with you, tips that I have used, and that I still use to know if eggs are still good before I buy them. They have always worked for me. Try them out and share your experiences with other readers of this article.

Tips for checking the freshness of egg before cracking it open

1. The Shake shake test!

You have to be careful when doing this when you are buying in some markets if you don’t want to receive showers of abuses from the sellers. With this test you just need to take some samples randomly from the crates and shake lightly. When you do that, you can tell if the content is still very viscous or gone watery.

I usually don’t take the watery ones because I believe it is an indication they have been around for a longer period, even if they are not spoilt yet.

Another important thing to do when using this method is to make sure you select your samples randomly. This is to make your samples representative of the whole lot. Take from the front, middle and back — you know sellers can mix fresh ones with the not-so-fresh ones.

2. The Egg-in-Water Test or The Float Test

This test cannot be performed in the market. I doubt if any seller would allow you to perform this test on eggs before you purchase them. So, this is only suitable for checking egg freshness at home. You might want to ask, “why do I need this test after buying?”

Okay, let us say you want to fry 3 eggs or mix an egg with other ingredients like flour to make cake or something, you have to be sure each egg is fine. What if you have cracked and mixed two fine eggs together and the third one you crack inside turns bad? You have wasted 3 eggs!

Fill a bowl with cold water and place your eggs in the bowl and allow them to stay for some seconds. Then observe how the eggs behave in the water. There are three possibilities.

Float Test Continued

If they sink to the bottom and lay flat on their sides, then you have bought very fresh eggs. If they have been stored for a few weeks but still good to eat, they’ll stand on one end at the bottom of the bowl.

Photo: SturgisJournal.com

However, If they float to the surface, they’re no longer fresh enough to eat. So, you may not want to risk cracking them open. The smell can be pungent and very repulsive if they have really changed the smell and color. I’ve been through that before — I couldn’t eat eggs for months after.

3. The Candling Method

The Candling method is not really straightforward as the others and it is the method that should normally be used for testing egg quality before putting eggs for sale in the market. It can, however, be used to determine the freshness of eggs too.

To do this, just put on a flashlight and hold right next to the eggshell to light up the inside. Although a sort of pinhole camera is normally used, the flashlight works fine for home use. When you flash the light, you can see the air space to determine if the egg is fresh or not (image below).

Photo: Woman’s Institute Library of Cooking (1918)

With the candling technique, you could have any of the following; a fresh egg (little air space, slightly visible yolk), a slightly old egg (larger air space, slightly darker yolk), a nearly bad egg (really dark yolk, spotty), and a spoiled egg (mixed in yolk, lots of dark).

Finally, let me say this that no matter which tests we try to carry out on eggs before cracking them, the best will remain cracking them open to check the colour and odour. Those listed here, however, will ensure that we get eggs that are still good and can be consumed.

Some Funny Cooking Practices Done By People

Poor eating habits has been the major topic of discussion among many nutrition gatherings and symposia while neglecting the various cooking practices that many individuals have personalized thereby making them remain in the path of unhealthy living. It would even interest you to know how unconcerned these people are regarding their method of preparing certain meals and they keep neglecting whatever health issues this can result into.

Few days ago, I kick started a discussion in this area and I was completely shocked with the words spewing out from the mouth of some people, expressing the cooking practices performed by them. Let’s see some the very funny ones.

1. Adding Seasoning Like Maggi, Knorr To Beans

I was in a friend’s house, as we were discussion about football teams and matches, we heard a louder conversation from his neighbours in the ground flat. One of them who is a Hausa woman said with clear boldness that she can not cook beans for her family without adding 4 to 6 cubes of seasoning such as Maggi, Knorr, etc., with many containing Monosodium Glutamate. The other said she uses just two cubes. Immediately, we both became completely speechless. My friend later said she (Hausa woman) only has three children all below age 10.

Friends, food condiment like this does not have any nutritive value it supplies to our body. It is best to reduce the amount we add to our meals. Instead, use natural food condiments like ginger, garlic and onions that have been found to be helpful in human health.

2. Adding Sugar To Yam

Growing up in a family where we never used sugars in tea, pap, custard and garri, it became culture shock when I recently discovered that many house wives add some table spoons of sugar to yam when cooking in their quest to make it sweet. I can only laugh in Ijebu.

Yam is a calorie dense food. Adding some sugars to it will only increase the calorie. No wonder the sudden rise in the cases of diabetes. For me, it is only a bad cook who does this. I stand to be corrected.

3. Frying Two Eggs With A Whole Bottle of Oil

This apparently sounds like an exaggeration but the truth has to be told. During my undergraduate days, a friend of mine appeared to have made a joke out of this – he was serious. He explained how a lady fried 2 eggs for him with close to a bottle of vegetable oil. Then, I never believed him until something of same extent happened to myself and a friend when we both visited a lady who obviously wanted to impress us. Sincerely, it was in the ratio of two eggs to 1 bottle of vegetable oil. We managed to eat three slices of bread each. As she steps out to pick her clothes when it was drizzling, I quickly rushed to drain the oil. No wonder she is overweight.

4. Adding Salt To Garri

This does not taste nice at all. I cannot fathom why anyone would do this. You would probably think this is an habit for the young children but as I surprised to hear of individuals who still do this. There has been a lot of campaign concerning the effect of consuming high amount of sodium. Yet, some people still indulge in this habit of soaking garri of all foods with pinches of  salt. Haba…..Take am easy.

No doubt, some of you are practicing some or all of the above listed habits. The need to avoid them is critically important as they can lead you to unwanted debilitating health conditions. As a practicing nutritionist, the conditions I see and hear of on daily basis are scary and some of these unhealthy habit could be the leading cause.

You could share some other ones you do or you are aware of.

Flatulence is usually caused due to incomplete digestion process followed by fermentation. Food substances that are not absorbed in the human intestines accumulate in the colon, where they are fermented by bacteria, leading to production of gas. The smell of the gas depends on the foods eaten and the types of bacteria that acted on it while the sound is as a result of the outward forceful flow of air that makes anal tissues vibrate. Some people also lack specific enzymes needed to break down certain foods, which then get acted upon by bacteria and create gas.
