8. Make dried fruits your snacks

When people have chronic constipations, they rush out to get laxatives. This is not usually necessary when you only have mild constipation. Adding some of these foods to your diet will see you through easily.

Dried fruits, such as dates, figs, prunes, apricots, and raisins, are good sources of fibre. I don’t know about you but I see the downside of some of this fruits as being too sweet. If you don’t have a problem with that, you can go ahead and snack on them but make sure you rinse your mouth or brush your teeth so you don’t let these foods damage your teeth.

Another great site to consuming these dried fruits is that, apart from being high in fibre, some of them particularly Prunes,  also contain sorbitol, which is a natural laxative.

9. Water, water and water…

Like we have said all through this article, you need to stay hydrate. Consumption of fibre requires that you drink water too because fibre absorb water and swell up to touch the wall of our intestine to aid digestion. This may leave you dehydrated but you can curb this by drinking a lot of water.

If you want to buy foods that are pre-packaged, you may want to check the nutritional compass to verify the amount of fibre per serving. It is a good practice to check the signs and symbols on foods (with their meaning) before we buy and eat them.

In conclusion, if you have constipation and have stomach pain, blood in your stool and unexplained weight loss, you should immediately see your doctor. Your constipation may be from other sources than those listed here.
